HERE'S THE SCOOP:

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

Please make sure that you are parking our cars in a parking space and walking your children across the front driveway.  We have had several "near misses" when parents try to park at the front of the lot.  Remember, that driveway is a drop off and loading zone for buses only.

Just as an "FYI", there are still several grade levels that have not been adopted in our Adopt-A-Class Program.  If you are interested in sponsoring a grade level, you may send in a check made payable to FAWE.  Please indicate which grade or program you would like to sponsor.

Please be assured that I am here to assist you and your children.  If you should ever have a question or a suggestion please feel free to contact me at 219-1640, ext. 101 or at olseng@martin.k12.fl.us

Sincerely,

Gail Olsen

Principal

CAMPUS SAFETY

The Martin county School District is joining with each school to strengthen it's security policies.  Your children may have informed you that all of the classroom doors are now locked during the day.  This isn't due to any incident on campus but an effort to make each classroom more secure.  It is imperative that you sign in at the office and WEAR your visitor's badge.  One point to remember is that if you go beyond the front wall of the school, you need a badge.  Teachers and staff members have been instructed to stop you and redirect you to the office for a badge.  Please don't be offended if you are stopped and understand this is for the safety of all of our children and staff.  Other changes in our sign in policies are being discussed and I would appreciate any input you might give me.

DRESS CODE

Please check your child's clothing before they come to school.   Remember that shorts need to be to the bottom of the finger tips when hands are at your sides and shirts must not show any midriff even if reaching up or bending down.  Also, remember that there is no hair coloring or streaking of any kind.  You're help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Please remind students that no electronic devices of any kind are allowed on campus. This includes but is not limited to Ipods, PSP players, electronic games, and Pokeman cards.

CHECKING GRADES ON-LINE

All Martin County public school teachers now use an Electronic Grade Book Called Pinnacle to record and maintain the student and class grades and performance statistics.  Teachers now benefit instantly from information that would normally take hours to calculate.  We are confident that the Pinnacle Internet Viewer will benefit everyone interested in the education process. We encourage all family members to become familiar with accessing the Pinnacle Viewer.

Click the Pinnacle Parent Viewer link below.  On the sign-in screen, enter the student Identification Number and Password.  (Students have been assigned a new 10 digit ID number which begins with 4300.  The Password for all 4300 students is their Social Security Number.  Students without a Social Security Number registered with the school system will use the 4300 number for both the ID and Password).  When the PIV screen opens, select Felix A. Williams Elementary School from the drop down menu.  Then review and select your options for viewing grade information.  (PIV information is available only with proper identification.  We urge students to avoid sharing access information with other students/persons).  Once you reach the grade screen in Pinnacle, please note that the student's name is never mentioned for security reasons.

If you see an "x" it indicates that the student was exempt for the assignment.  An "x" is treated as a non-event and has no effect on the student's grade.  A "z" indicated that there was no apparent attempt made to complete the assignment.  A "z" is calculated as a zero.

SCHOOL VISITORS Please remember during school hours if you are on campus to visit the office to sign in and out.  This policy will only help us begin to secure the campus for the safety of our children and staff!

We appreciate all of our Educational Enrichment Sponsors.  Our teachers and special programs have benefited from your generous donations.  We still have programs without sponsors so if you would like to sponsor a class or program for the 2007-2008 school year, please stop by the front office to fill out the proper form.
